Matale District volleyball poolist, Best setter of the Matale District under 20 volleyball tournament 2019 Jayasekera Arachchilage Sasanka Supun Jayasekera has brought honour and glory for his school – National School Dambulla He was born on 9 th September 2002 and initially was admitted to the primary school of Dambulla in 2008 and his first class teacher was Mrs. Malani. When he was in school he did not particpate in any sport and in 2013 he was drafted to the grade six of National School Dambulla.
Then in 2005 his parents Retired Sri Lanka Army Sergeant Major J. A. S. P. Jayasekera and Anusha Chandima noticing the talents of their son for volleyball handed over him to the school volleyball master in charge and coach Madusanka Rathnayake.
In the Same year he participated in the inter house under 12 volleyball tournament and got selected for the school team.
Following year he participated in the under 13 house tournaments and took part in the Divisional, Zonal and Provincial and after winning these tournaments his school took part in the Provincial and could not come up to expectations and in the under 15 DSI Tournament too they were beaten by Ruwanwella Central.
Then in 2017 in the under 17 they won all the lower tournaments but lost in the all island and DSI Tournaments.
In 2018 too they won all the lower tournaments comfortably and in the all island games they came up to quarter finals and in the DSI under 16 also they lost in the semi finals and with these performances under his belt he was taken to Dhammissara National School Nattandiya in 2019 and in the all island nationals they reached up to quarters They are coached by Keerthi Jayasekera and Channa Jayasekera and with the outbreak of Corona in 2020 volleyball came to a halt.
He represented his school at the Matale District volleyball tournament in the under 20 category and in 2019 he was adjudged the Best Setter of the tournament and initially they selected 20 players for the pool and presently he is in the 12 member squad.
