The owner of Regal Sales Private company at the BMICH premises who had allegedly taken Rs 45 million from two persons, was barred from leaving the country yesterday by Colombo Additional Magistrate I. N. Rizwan.
The suspect, a resident of Badulla, had taken money from two persons who came to buy a jeep from his company located at the BMICH premises on Wednesday and he is in hiding now.
Cinnamon Gardens Police informed the Court that the suspect has fled the area and there is a possibility of him leaving the country. The Police sought a Court order preventing him from leaving the country.
The Cinnamon Gardens Police produced three suspects in relation to the incident, and they were released on bail with two sureties of Rs 1 million each. The suspects who were released are the assistant manager of the Regal Sales company and its cashier.
Police have also recorded statements from seven employees of the company and further investigations have been handed over to the CID. The Cinnamond Gardens Police started the investigation into the incident following a complaint made by Pannilage Kithmin Viranjana Perera of Dibbedda, Panadura and M Sampath Costa of Galle. The complainants had arrived to the BMICH premises following a lengthy telephone conversation with the suspect. After showing the photos and keys of the concerned vehicle, the suspect confirmed the trust of the complainant, took the amount of Rs 33 million from the complainant.
The suspect had informed them to go to the place where the vehicle was parked but the suspect had not come. After waiting for hours, the suspect did not come. So the complainant, who called his mobile phone, became suspicious when he found out that the phone was not working.
