0 6

The suspect of the murder of a woman near the Kahathuduwa interchange on the Southern Expressway has made a confession to the police after he was arrested at Katunayake Airport on Tuesday (09) night. The Kahathuduwa Police produced the suspect before the Court yesterday (10), where the Magistrate ordered to detain the suspect for 24 hours to conduct interrogations on the murder case. The killer who attacked and killed a Civil Aviation officer with a sharp weapon in his confession said:”Even though I called her, she didn’t answer the phone which made me very angry. So I left a message saying that I was going to kill her when she came to the Kahathuduwa highway after work and I stabbed her when she crossed the road to go home as she was avoiding me.

I started dating her in 1996 and I loved her very much. However, I got married in 2000. She married a doctor much after me. Then I went abroad for a long time and came back to Sri Lanka. There is no secret about the relationship between us. We have had quarrels on many occasions from time to time but they ended peacefully each time. I have picked her up after work from near the Kahathuduwa highway on countless occasions in my car and dropped her near her home.

When Anuruddika evaded me and jumped to the other side of the road, I don’t know what came over me and I ended up stabbing her in rage. After that while on my way home thinking that if I stay here, I will face problems, I bought an air ticket to Dubai through a friend who helps me with my ticketing as I travel in and out of the country very often.

The suspect said that he left the car at home and took a three-wheeler and went to the airport where he was arrested by Police. He said that he will regret for the rest of his life what he did to Anuruddika, whom he deeply loved for many years.
