Suspect flees in handcuffs in Walasmulla

Weerakatiya Police said that a suspect who was arrested with drugs by the officers of the Tangalle Division’s anti-corruption unit yesterday evening (3) escaped with handcuffs when he was taken to be presented before the Acting Magistrate.

The escapee is K.A. Priyantha, a 38 years old resident of Julampitiya.This person was arrested by the officers of the Divisional Anti-Corruption Unit with 8.630 mg of heroin and handed over to the Weerakatiya Police Station for further investigation.

Police say that when the officers of the Weerakatiya Police took him to produce before the Acting Magistrate of Walasmulla, he ran away with the handcuffs from the court premises. Weerakatiya Police say that investigations are currently underway to arrest him.
