Suspect held for defrauding people of Rs. 11 Mn in job racket

Attanagalla Acting Magistrate Samitha Lal Kodisinghe on Tuesday ordered that the main suspect in an employment racket be remanded until August 10.

The suspect, Mohammad Taip Mohammad Ismath, residing in Warakapola, is charged with defrauding 10 persons promising them employment in Hong Kong, but taking them to India and leaving them stranded there. The victims have also paid the suspect Rs 1.1 million each.

Danowita Police Sub-Inspector Bandara Vathtuhewa stated that the Gampaha Special Crime Investigation Unit conducted investigations and arrested the suspect.

Police Sergeant SI Gunasekara stated that this large-scale employment racket was revealed during investigations based on a complaint received from a resident of the Pasyala area.
