Colombo Crime Division arrested a person who defrauded Rs.3.9 million from three people by promising them three houses in an apartment complex in Modera, Colombo, under the control of the Urban Development Authority.
He had obtained Rs. 1.5 million from one person and Rs. 1.2 million each from two others, Police said. The arrested suspect is a 31-year-old resident of Maligawatta.
During the investigation, it has been revealed that the suspect has also given documents stating that they are documents from the Urban Development Authority, promising to provide houses.
The Colombo Crime Division stated that the documents are fake with official seals similar to those issued by the Urban Development Authority.
