Suspect in failed ransom bid nabbed

The Police Special Task Force said that the 26-year-old suspect involved in a shooting at a businessman’s house in Leo Mawatha, Kandana, who refused to pay ransom money, was arrested in Fathima Mawatha, Kandana, with 235gms of the drug ICE.

According to Police, the suspect is a close relative of Rasika Chamod, aka Chuti Malli, who is a criminal and a drug dealer operating from abroad.

Last Friday (4), two gunmen came on a motorcycle, fired about 15 shots at the businessman’s house, with a T-56 gun, and fled when the businessman refused to pay a ransom of Rs. 5 million. The gunman’s motorcycle was taken into Police custody on the same day, and on questioning it was revealed that Chuti, who is in Dubai, had arranged the motorcycle to a person named Santhika and told him to use it for the task.
