Suspect nabbed for transporting commercial explosives

A special operation conducted by the Navy in coordination with the Nilaveli Police helped arrrest a suspect with a cache of explosives, at 08th Mile Post in Nilaveli on September 24.

The apprehension was made while the suspect was illegally transporting the explosive items among which were; 27 water gel sticks – a type of commercial explosive and 500 non-electric detonators.

During a coordinated search conducted by SLNS Vijayaba in the Eastern Naval Command with the Nilaveli Police on September 24 at 08th Mile Post, the items were held while they being transferred by a three-wheeler. The suspect involved in this illegal act together with 27 water gel sticks, 500 non-electric detonators and the three-wheeler was taken into custody. The suspect is a resident of Nilaveli, aged 28. ,

The suspect along with explosive items and the three wheeler was handed over to the Nilaveli Police.
