A coordinated search operation conducted by the Navy and Police Crime Division, Colombo, led to the apprehension of a suspect with about 1kg and 10g of crystal methamphetamine (Ice) in the Dehiwela area on Wednesday (27).
Joining hands with law enforcement authorities, the Sri Lanka Navy conducts anti-drug operations with a view to warding off the drug menace from the society. In a similar operation, SLNS Rangalla in the Western Naval Command joined hands with the Police Crime Division, Colombo, to recover a parcel containing about 1kg and 10g of crystal methamphetamine from a house in the Dehiwela area, which was searched on suspicion. The operation also led to the arrest of a suspect in connection to the incident.
Meanwhile, the gross street value of seized drugs is believed to be over Rs. 15 million.
The suspect held in this operation was identified as a resident of Kalubowila, aged 39. The suspect along with crystal methamphetamine was handed over to the Police Crime Division, Colombo for onward legal action.
