Suspect with over 10kgs of Kerala cannabis held in Mannar

The Navy in coordination with the Police apprehended a person with over 10kg of Kerala Cannabis, during a combined operation carried out in Pallimunai, Mannar on Friday evening.

The Navy conducts regular patrols and search operations to curb a wide range of illegal activities carried out by smugglers via sea routes.

Based on information collected from a combined intelligence operation mounted by SLNS Therapuththa in the Northwestern Naval Command and SLNS Gajaba in the North Central Naval Command, the search was carried out with the assistance of Mannar Police Station Vice Branch in the Pallimunai area. The operation led to the apprehension of a suspect who was carrying about 10kg and 415g of Kerala Cannabis concealed in five packages.

The gross street value of the seized stock of Kerala Cannabis is estimated to be over Rs. three million.

The 42-year-old suspect from the Pallimunai area along with the stock of Kerala Cannabis was handed over to the Mannar Police for further action.
