The Colombo Crimes Division said that 13 swords that were hidden inside a house at Kalipullawatte, Dharmarama Road, Dematagoda were seized during a raid and the owner of the house arrested.

The Police said that the house was raided on a tip-off received by Sub-Inspector of Police R. L. R. Maduranga, the Officer-In-Charge of the Organized Crimes Investigation Unit of the Colombo Crimes division that a drug racket was taking place in the house. The stock of swords was discovered packed inside a fertilizer sack.

When the owner of the house, the suspect was questioned he had mentioned the name of the brother of an organised criminal from the Wellampitiya area named ‘Parippuwa’ who had been visiting Kalipullawatte regularly, as Waruna Lakmal Maduranga. He said about two weeks ago, two bearded men had visited the house around 11.30 p.m. and said that Lakmal had wanted the stock of weapons to be stored inside the house stating that they would be taking them away and then left. The Police said that a lengthy investigation is underway to find out whether the statement made by the suspect in connection with the swords, is true or not.

A Police officer said information has been revealed that the individual named Waruna Lakmal Maduranga had been arrested and later remanded by the Dematagoda Police in connection with assaulting and killing of a person residing at the Lakhiru Sewana, Apartment Complex in Dematagoda on February 2.

The 53-year-old suspect who was taken into custody is to be produced before Court.

Sub-Inspector of Police Priyamantha, Police Constables Saman,Lasantha, Chaturanga, Madumal, Maharachichi, Madushan and Kumara are are conducting investigations under the directions of Officer-In-Charge of the Organized Crimes Investigation Unit Sub-Inspector of Police R. L. R. Maduranga on the instructions of Director of the Colombo Crimes Division Assistant Superintendent of Police Neville De Silva and Officer-In-Charge Chief Inspector of Police Anslem De Silva.
