T. B. Jayah Boxing meet from September 2 to 5
The Schools Boxing Association of Sri Lanka, will hold their annual Inter-schools, meet which will be the 52nd T.B. Jayah boxing from September 2 to 5 from 2 pm onwards at the Azhar College, Akurana boxing ring starting from 2 pm organized by the Sri Lanka Schools boxing association. In the 51st event Pallebowala Central emerged champions which took place at the Jayathilake Stadium in Nawalapitiya where 81 schools with 430 boxers were seen in action. In this meet winners collected four Gold and one Silver while Trinity College became runner-up with four Gold, one Silver and one Bronze. Mahanama College was the third with three Gold and one Silver. Before 1969, the Stubbs’ Shield Championships was the only boxing tournament for schoolboys where the weight categories were matched with corresponding age limits. The newcomers rarely had a chance of winning. Hence in 1969, an Inter-schools Novices Meet was introduced for the benefit of new schoolboys in order to gain experience prior to participating at the Stubbs Shield Championships.
This new tournament was named as T. B. Jayah Memorial Cup Meet,in honour of Maradana Zahira College Principal who was a past President of the Association.
Trinity College hockey foundation AGM
Trinity College Hockey foundation will be having their Annual General Meeting on Saturday the 2nd of September at the Old Trinitians Sports Club at Asgiriya.
The Trinity College Hockey Foundation gives their best for the game and last year Trinity College celebrated their 75th year in hockey.
In the year 2008 a group of Old boys who have been Hockey players during their time, rallied around to support the game. And with the positive impact it brought the Trinity Hockey Foundation, was established in 2015 under the guidance of Paul Jeyaraj and some senior old boys. On the same day of the AGM the annual hockey encounter between Trinity College and S. Thomas’ College Mount Lavania will be played at Asgiriya.
This game came into existence in the year 1950 and since then the fixture has been a regular one The silverware for the encounter was first introduced in the year 2003 in memory of former warden of S. Thomas’ College Dr. Neville de Alwis. Last year the game was revived after three years because of the Covid 19 pandemic. Trinitians were able to beat the Thomians by 2 goals to 1 at Mount Lavinia.
