Teacher assaults student during assembly

Hanwella Police has started an investigation against a teacher of a school in Hanwella who allegedly assaulted a student for singing the National Anthem loudly during school assembly.

The incident had occurred on Monday. The teacher had allegedly approached the student who sang the National Anthem loudly and had hit him several times on the head in front of other students asking why he sang the National Anthem loudly.

The student studying in Grade 9 after being admitted to Salawa Hospital, has been transferred to the Avissawella Hospital for further treatment. This student’s father is a lawyer. The father of the child, said when he came home in the evening, the child had told him his head was hurting and later he had come to know about the assault by the teacher. The child was admitted to the Salawa Hospital and the child’s mother lodged a complaint with the Kosgama Police.
