Teacher who assaulted student told to report to Police
Hanwella Police yesterday informed the Hanwella Rajasinghe Central College Principal to present the teacher who had allegedly assaulted the student for singing the National Anthem loudly at the morning assembly as he was avoiding the police. Police said the teacher in question is absent from the school and avoiding the police.Police said he had not reported for work on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The police had obtained statements from the class teacher of the Grade 9 class where the student is studying as well as the teacher in charge of the grade and another student, yesterday regarding the assault. The assault had taken place on November14. In the complaint received by the police, it is stated that the teacher who came up to the student who was singing the national anthem very loudly and in front of a hundred other students had asked the student to sing louder and hit him on the head several times. It was a Grade 9 student who was hit thus.Subsequent to this student being admitted to the Salawa Hospital, he had been transferred to the Avissawella hospital for further treatment.Police said the student had left the hospital on 15th evening after obtaining treatment. It was a lawyer’s child who had been assaulted for singing the national anthem loudly.
