Team University of Colombo were crowned as the champions in Wrestling at Sri Lanka University Games (SLUG)

For the first time in the history of the Sri Lanka University games, team University of Colombo were crowned the champions in Wrestling at the 14th Sri Lanka University Games (SLUG), held on 4th and 5th of September at Weber stadium Batticaloa, Under the guidance of the coach Chaminda Kumara, Sub coach Nishadh Iqbaland the captaincy of Aathif Ahamed.

Day one of the event consisted of five weight classes ranging from 57kg to 74kg, the contenders Aathifahamed, Wasfan , Dineth , Niranjan , and Ilham stepped into the mat seeking glory. They battled it out with all their might and as the day concluded none of the five competitors walked out without a medallion.Colombo had won 1 gold 1 silver and three bronze. The team was filled with excitement and Hope as Colombo was trailing behind Sabaragamuwa by 1 point

As the second day commenced for the weight category in between 75kg to 125kg , team colombo consisting of Akindu Fernando, Hasintha Hewawasam, Rithila Gamage, Shamal Harshana and Savindu Rodrigo stepped in, determined to win the championship. tragically, their campaign for the day started with a couple of early losses, but their morale did not wither, their tenacity carried them through, with continuous victories following the initial setback, they secured three spots in the finals, and as the day concluded they had managed to win 2 gold 1 silver and 1 bronze to finish their campaign.

In a combat sport where contenders engage in one to one battle, teamwork may seem unimportant, but team colombo proved otherwise with their teammates working around the clock to provide a smooth match process, from preparing the wrestlers for the match to tending the injuries after. Taking care of all the requirements outside of the match, they made sure that the contenders were in their best condition to enter into the mat.

Under the guidance of the Masters of incharge SujanWalagampaya, Kavindu Abeysinghe team colombo returned back home with a victory and made history.
