Tear gas bullet explodes, injuring cop

A Police officer was injured and admitted to the Colombo National Hospital on Sunday (23) evening after a tear gas bullet fell on the ground and exploded at the Police Field Force Headquarters. The Police officer injured is a constable attached to the Public Management Division and working in the anti-riot force. He has been hospitalised.

This officer was involved in the duties of dispersing a demonstration held on Sunday near Vihara Mahadevi Park. At the end of their duty, a group of officers, including this officer, went to the Field Force Headquarters and were handing over unused tear gas bullets and other ammunition, when a tear gas bullet fell on the ground and exploded, a senior police officer said.
