Technocity completes ‘Rebuilding Sri Lanka’ initiative, empowering more than 18,000 students
LKR 80 million commitment supports digital education across 39 schools in the North Western Province
Technocity (Pvt) Ltd. has completed its “Rebuilding Sri Lanka” initiative, a corporate social responsibility programme aimed at expanding access to technology and digital education for 18,326 students across 39 schools in the North Western Province.
The initiative, undertaken in collaboration with the Prime Minister’s Office, Ministry of Education and education authorities in the province, was launched at the end of December and completed by the end of April, delivering the programme within four months.
As part of the initiative, Technocity committed LKR 20 million in cash through the Prime Minister’s Office, along with approximately LKR 60 million worth of information technology equipment and related infrastructure, bringing its total commitment to about LKR 80 million.
Building complete digital learning environments
Rather than focusing solely on computer donations, Technocity said the programme was designed to establish complete and practical digital learning environments that schools could use immediately.
The initiative included nine fully equipped IT laboratories, technology upgrades at participating schools and the complete equipping of one Zonal Education Office.
The equipment included new Intel Core i5 desktop computers with 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD storage, 22-inch monitors and other required IT equipment. Technocity also supplied computer tables, chairs and other furniture required for the laboratories.
The company said the approach was based on the belief that access to technology is an essential part of modern education and that students, regardless of their location or economic circumstances, should have opportunities to develop digital skills needed for the future.
Commenting on the completion of the initiative, Mohamed Ismail Famy, chairman of Technocity (Pvt) Ltd., said the company wanted the programme to create a lasting impact rather than simply provide computers.
“Our intention was not simply to donate computers, but to provide complete facilities that students and teachers could genuinely use for many years. Education and technology can change the direction of a young person’s life, and we believe giving students access to these opportunities is one of the most meaningful ways we can contribute to our country.”
A 28-year journey in Sri Lanka
Technocity is a Sri Lankan ICT company with more than 28 years of experience in the technology industry. Famy said the company’s long association with Sri Lanka was also a factor in its decision to support community development.

Completing the programme within four months required coordination between Technocity, the Prime Minister’s Office, Ministry of Education, North Western Province education authorities, zonal education officials, school principals, teachers and local communities.
Technocity thanked the institutions and individuals involved in the programme, as well as its employees who worked across the province to deliver, install and complete the facilities.
The company said the completion of “Rebuilding Sri Lanka” marked the end of the current phase of the initiative, but not its broader commitment to education, digital inclusion and community development.
Technocity said the long-term success of the programme would ultimately be measured not by the equipment installed, but by the opportunities the facilities create for students to learn, explore, innovate and develop the skills needed in an increasingly technology-driven world.
