Ten foreign players for Prima Junior Open Golf Tourney

The eagerly awaited PRIMA-sponsored Sri Lanka Junior Open Golf Championship and Regional Junior Open Tournaments are set to kick off from December 20 to 22 at the Royal Colombo Golf Club. This premier junior golf programme, now in its 15th year, will host 10 foreign players in the Open Gold Division, creating a platform for earning coveted World Ranking Points.

Notably, PRIMA’s flagship brand, Sunrise bread, has been a steadfast sponsor of the tournament for 15 consecutive years. The event signifies a significant milestone in the enduring partnership between PRIMA and Sri Lanka Golf, dedicated to nurturing junior golf talent across the country.

Preceding the main tournament on December 20, practice sessions will be held on December 18 and 19. Originating in 2008 with PRIMA’s Sunrise bread as a key partner, this year marks the 15th anniversary of the championship.

The Sri Lanka Junior Open holds a prestigious status as the benchmark for the World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR) for junior golfers. The National Junior Champion title awaits the victorious golfer in both boys and girls categories, with Open and Gold categories catering to various age groups.

Sajith Gunaratne, General Manager of Ceylon Agro Industries Ltd, Prima Group Sri Lanka, expressed enthusiasm, stating, “As the long-standing partner in supporting junior golf in Sri Lanka, we look forward to high-standard of golf this year.”

Ms. Niloo Jayathilake, Chairperson of the Junior Sub Committee at Sri Lanka Golf, expressed pride in PRIMA Sunrise bread sponsoring the event for the 15th consecutive year. She emphasized the positive journey in golf development, with 10 international entries this year, showcasing the tournament as a catalyst for junior players to compete and showcase their strength and talent.

President of Sri Lanka Golf, Ranil Peiris, extended gratitude to Niloo Jayathilake for 15 years of dedicated work for junior golf. He thanked PRIMA Sunrise for their crucial sponsorship, acknowledging the essential role sponsors play in sustaining quality tournaments.

The Golf President Peiris also expressed appreciation for the Royal Colombo Golf Club’s support throughout the year, highlighting their contributions to maintaining a top-notch golf course despite challenging weather conditions.

Reflecting on the importance of junior golf, President Peiris emphasized its role in shaping the future of the sport. He commended the Junior Sub Committee for their efforts in developing young talent and expressed eagerness for more tournaments to provide opportunities for young players to develop their skills.
