The most experienced player of the Sri Lanka Test cricket team Angelo Mathews reached the 100 club when he played his 100th Test match against Pakistan which started yesterday at the Galle International cricket stadium.

Mathews the 35 year old right hander scored only 42 runs in the first innings of the Sri Lanka team and he was caught by wicket keeper Mohammed Rizwan off the bowling of leg spinner Nauman Ali.

The former National skipper Mathews has scored 6918 runs with 13 centuries and 38 half centuries maintaining over 45 batting average said that Test cricket is his most prominent format in this sport. “I love Test cricket very much despite T- 20 and ODI’ s which is popular among spectators but during my Test career I had lot of memories from year 2009”.

In fact Mathews started his debut Test at Galle on July 4th 2009 was against the same opponent.

“I worked hard to build up my career. I am greatful to my School St Joseph’s, all coaches from School level to National level, my parents, loving wife, children, relations and spectators, team mates, SLC as well as media which gave lot of support during this period.

SLC Vice President Jayantha Dharmadasa and former National paceman and fast bowling coach Chaminda Vaas who is also a distinguished old boy of St Joseph’s were present at the special ceremony before the Galle Test started yesterday.
