Thai Ambassador meets Justice Minister

A meeting between the Justice Minister, Prison Affairs and Constitutional Reforms, Dr. Wijayadasa Rajapakshe PC, and the Thai Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Poj Harnpol was held at the Ministry of Justice yesterday (21) morning.

The main focus of the meeting was on further improving the economic, political and cultural cooperation between the two countries that has existed for a long time.

The Thai Ambassador said it is excellent that under the leadership of the current President Ranil Wickremesinghe, the economic and political situation and normal life of the people in Sri Lanka have been restored, and the long-term religious, cultural and political relations between Sri Lanka and Thailand will be further improved.

The Minister of Justice asked the Ambassador about the current election system in Thailand and the Ambassador gave a long explanation about it.

Minister Rajapakshe inquired about the Muthu Raja Tusker that was given to Sri Lanka by the Thai government and taken back to Thailand for treatment and the Thai Ambassador said that the Muthu Raja elephant is in good health.

The Minister of Justice said that the Office for National Unity and Reconciliation, the Office for Missing Persons and the Office for Complete Damages have been established in order to build national reconciliation and harmony between all nationalities of Sri Lanka and the Truth-Finding Commission will also be established soon.

The Minister further said that the 21st Constitutional Amendment, the Election Expenses Regulation Act and the Anti-corruption Act have been passed so far in order to reduce corruption and irregularities in the country.

The Thai Ambassador also explained about the measures that are taken to draw the attention of Thai tourists to the Kandy Esala Perahera as it is one of the greatest cultural festivals in Sri Lanka.
