Thanura Reshini the athletic star from Nattandiya
Fifteen year old school athletic champion North Western Provincial 4×400 Runner up and Marathon Runner Thanura Reshini Perera has brought honour and glory to her school Dhammissara Maha Vidyalaya Nattandiya with her deeds in the field of athletics.
Thanura who was born on 9th February 2007 and hails from Gadolgodawatte Nattandiya was admitted to Dhammissara Vidyalaya in 2013 and in the 2014 Schools Sports Meet she participated as an under eight competitor and came first in 30 metres and her team won the 4×50 metre relay event and in the following year too she repeated the same result and noticing her talents her Parents Anitas Milroy Perera and Shriyamal Padmakanthi handed over their daughter to the school coaches Keerthi Jayasekera and Jude Chintaka.
In 2016 participating in the school sports meet Thanura won the 75, 100 metre races and the relay event 4×100 and High Jump and she carried away the Best Athlete Award and participated in the Divisional meet and won places. In 2017 she was the Champion Athlete and in the following year too she was the joint champion. In 2019 she was the under 13 champion and went up to Divisional meet and then in 2020 participating in the North Western Province Inter Club Open Meet in the 4×100 event organized by sports and Youth Ministry her team came second and in the following year participating in the same meet they were the Runner up and at the school meet she was the under 14 school champion by sweeping the board in 80 metres and 80 metre hurdles and the 4×100 relay event.
She took part in the two kilometre Open Marathon Race organized by the Puttalam District Athletic Association and she was placed sixth and received a Merit Certificate and at the North Western Province Youth Meet she won the 200 metre event and came second in 100 metres and second in the 4×100 relay event and in the Puttalam District Athletic Association Meet in the under 16 events her team came first in the 4×100 metres and 4×400 metres relay events and in the following year too at the same meet their team won the 4×400 metres event and at the Ministry of Sports Youth Festival Meet they won the 4×400 relay and qualifying for the North Western Provincial Meet the came second in 4×400 metres relay and her team mates for the 4×400 were Sayumi Sandamini, Vimasha Vidulani and Subashini Madushika and the 4×100 metres team members were Jesmila Marian, Sayumi Sandamini and Subashini Madushika and herself and with these performances under their belt they have been selected for the All Island Schools Athletic meet to be held on November 16 2022 at Sugathadasa Stadium, Colombo.
