Twenty Seven year old Tharindu Chathuranga, a Rugby player of Kandy Sports Club is an Old Boy of Kingswood College,Kandy who got admitted to the College in the Year 2010. He started his Rugby Career at his old School, Eheliyagoda Central under the coaching of Praneeth Weranga and due to his interest in the game as well as his skills and hard work made him to be a young flanker and later on when he got admitted to Kingswood he improved his ability as a talented Rugby player under the Coaching of Nalaka Weerakkody, Priyantha Gunaratne and Ananda Kasturiarachchi of Kingswood College, talented Rugby coaches who sharpened his skills in Rugby and prepared him for the Sri Lanka Schools National Squad and he got an opportunity to tour the Chinese Taipei in the year 2013. The talent he had in Rugby was inititated by the Kandy Sports club Rugby team which enabled him to join this Rugby Team after his school career.
Tharindu well known as Eheli to his team mates did his strenuous training under the South African Rugby Coach, Johan Taylor who was a talented Rugby Coach from Ireland.
He was able to start his first rugby match in the year 2014 and gradually his talent and hard work improved due to the coaching of some veteran Sri Lankan Rugby coaches who were at the Kandy SC during the period, Sean Wijesinghe, Saliya Kumara and Viraj Prasantha and Tharindu became a permanent player in the Kandy SC Rugby team since 2015 and started playing for the Rugby team since 2017 and he did his best for the Club with his other team mates. His dream was realized when he was included in the Sri Lanka National Rugby team due to his hard work, talent, discipline and commitment but unforturnately although he got trained for the National Sevens team tour in 2018 he was unable to get selected due to an injury he got during play and in the year 2019 he was part of the National First XV team that toured Malaysia.
Tharindu played one of his best seasons during the2019/20 Rugby Season under the Coaching of Fazil Marija and Buddhika Thalgampola and Tharindu Chathuranga was awarded the ‘Man of the Match’ in many of the Rugby Games but due to the epidemic in the Country the Kandy SC Rugby team was prevented from playing for sometime. But as the Country became normal Tharindu Chathurange has come back with more energy and he did Rugby practices by himself preparing himself to get back to the Rugby Field. He is grateful to the former Captain and coach of Kandy SC Sean Wijesinghe, Australian open side Flanker, Michael Hooper and South African Flanker Siya Kolisi.
