Theekshana credits Mendis for his World Cup success
Former Sri Lanka spinner Ajantha Mendis is currently coaching the Army Cricket Team and has provided valuable inputs to the 21-year-old during the training sessions.
“Ajantha Mendis has inspired me a lot with his coaching while training with the Under-23 side at Army and has guided me through to reach this level,” Theekshana said after the game.
“He has always given me useful advice and some bowling techniques, which he could not exploit during his career,” Theekshana emphasised.
“Even when I am performing overseas he used to follow me and we have made it a habit to discuss some of the areas after the game, whether I have performed well or not on that particular day.”
“I think, with Army Cricket Club I have received all the support to reach this level and it was through their backing that I had the opportunity of competing in the Lanka Premier League.”
“The Army T20 League has also provided the opportunity for us to show our talent with over 150 cricketers vying for a place in the team.”
“The Army Cricket Team has been doing well and last year we came to the final of the T20 tournament and reached the semi-finals of the one day tournament,” Theekshana added. (Agencies)
