There are no three factions in  SLFP and there is only one group chaired by Nimal Siripala de Silva

Although some have claimed that the Sri Lanka Freedom Party has divided into three factions, there is only one group within the Sri Lanka Freedom Party.

Mr. Mahinda Amaraweera, Minister of Agriculture and Plantation Industries and Senior Vice President of Sri Lanka Freedom Party, said that the group is only the group chaired by Mr. Nimal Siripala de Silva.

The minister made these comments while addressing the media at his residence in Agunakolapalassa this morning (29).

Mr. Maithripala Sirisena is not in any position in the Sri Lanka Freedom Party. The former chairman voluntarily left the party. If he likes, he can speak and work as a patron of the party. There is no point in Mr. Maithripala Sirisena talking about the Sri Lanka Freedom Party now.

There is only one group within the Sri Lanka Freedom Party. That is the team led by Mr. Nimal Siripala de Silva. That’s our team. Other groups are not in this party.

It has been confirmed by many court decisions. No one has gone to court against that. The party headquarters is also under us. We are doing all the work.

Our party’s politburo and central committee will also meet on Wednesday 31st about how our party will work in the next presidential election. At that point, we as a party decide who we will support.

We do not make decisions as individuals but as a party.

There are currently no two or three parties in this party. There is only our side. The minister also mentioned.
