Thief who escaped locking PC in cell re-arrested

A suspect who was arrested in connection with a theft and kept at the Matugama Police Station had escaped on Thursday after faking an illness and then locking the Police officer who came to help him inside the Police cell.

Police information revealed that the suspect had complained of chest pain and when a Police officer opened the cell to check on him, he had locked the officer in the cell and fled. The suspect a resident of Ovitigala had been arrested over a theft.

However, the Police had been able to arrest him again the next day from the Ovitigala area.
