Thimansa Herath – outstanding athlete and promising swimmer

Sixteen-year-old Thimansa Herath is an outstanding athlete and an up-and coming swimmer having represented Lexicon International School, Kandy with distinction.

Her athletic coach is Sanjeewa Weerakkody and her swimming coach is A. Nandana. Thimansa started her athletics career in 2015 and she won the 75m race representing Iris House and went on to win the 50m race and the long jump at the Sports Meet.

She was adjudged Best Athlete in the Under-11 age category. In 2016 she secured second place in the 200m event at the Kandy District Athletics Meet. She secured third place in the Under-16 100m and 200m races while competing at the Junior John Tarbat Championship. Thimansa started swimming to keep herself fit for athletics under a private swimming coach at the Dharmaraja College Swimming Pool. She secured third place in the backstroke event at the Swimming Meet organised by Kingswood College in 2015 and won second place at the same meet in the following year.

In addition, Thimansa was selected as the Games Captain of the School for the year 2021.
