Thirteen Post Offices open at night for traffic fine payments

Thirteen Post Offices located in Colombo and Gampaha Districts are open 24 hours a day, the Police Traffic Headquarters said that it is possible to pay fines issued to drivers by Police in connection with traffic offences.

Traffic Control and Road Safety DIG Indika Hapugoda has sent a message informing the heads of Police divisions of Colombo North, Colombo South, Colombo Central, Panadura, Kalutara, Nugegoda, Kelaniya, Gampaha, Seethawaka as well as Colombo Urban Traffic. A Police message has also been issued even to the directors of the Police, Western Province South Traffic Division, Traffic Control and Road Safety Police Division.

It stated that Post Offices with night services are currently operating in the Western Province – South (Colombo-Kalutara) postal jurisdiction as a pilot project with the aim of expanding the provision of services to the public by the Postal Department.

It also states that facilities have been set up in those Post Offices to accept fines issued in connection with traffic cases during the night.

The message issued by the Deputy Inspector General for Traffic Control and Road Safety Indika Hapugoda states that post offices at Kompannaveediya, Havelock town, Wellawatta, Borella, Kotahena, Battaramulla, Nugegoda, Dehiwala, Mount Lavinia, Moratuwa, Panadura, Kalutara, Seethawakapura will be open 24 hours.
