Thisarindu and Hansadi lead at SLNYCC

Thisarindu Induwara of Royal College scored a full 6 points out of possible 6 games after the 6th round in under 12 open event while Hansadi Akuratiya of Ferguson High School, Ratnapura was leading the Under 10 Girls at the Sri Lanka National Youth chess championship (SLNYCC) which is now in progress. The tournament conducted by the Chess Federation of Sri Lanka (CFSL).

Thisarindu the promising player really performed well at the under 12 open event scoring his six points each against SMDM Herath, Melone Berthelot, G.H.S Sanulya, Senal Francis, Ramiru Gunawardena and Pamok Samaranayake.

Meanwhile 9 players, Pamok Methdinu Samaranayake (Rahula College), Chenitha Mithvidu Ovitigala (Nalanda College), B .Janukshan (Jaffna Hindu College), G Haritha Hansana (Rahula College), U J Nimuthu Nimthaka(Rahula College), K. A. G Galkotuwa (Dharmaraja College), U M Senal Vishmin Francis(Bandaranaike College, Gampaha), Dishal Nimsara Weerasekara (Sri Chandananda Buddhist College), G H A Dulnith Sanviru (Royal College) and D. L. N Dandeniya (Maliyadeva College were in the second spot with two more rounds to spare.

At the under 10 girls event Hansadie Akuratiya was leading with 5 points out of possible five games. Only five games of the event have been held so far and two more rounds to come on tomorrow. Hansadie beat Sethumlee Palliyage, Buddhima Aravinda Perera, P G Lithumi Hiranya, Meenu Vihansa Hewapathirana and R B Pumudi Hansadi.

Hirudini Dehenya (Royal International School), GH Nethuli Rasheema (Therapuththa Primary School Hambantota) and H.G Sasmi Sithumsa (Lyceum International) were following closely with 4.5 points out of 5 games with two more games to spare.

The CFSL has come forward to conduct this Sri Lanka National Youth Chess Championships to mark their Golden Jubilee year. The National Youth Chess Champion in respective Age groups will receive the trophy while, the top three will be awarded with medals.

In addition the top three players will be included in the National Youth Chess Teams which represent the country in Asian and World Youth events. (D.R).
