Labour and Foreign Employment Minister Manusha Nanayakkara said that those who do not love the country and the people have become afraid of an imminent encouraging message and they are now running helter-skelter like rat snakes which have come into contact with kerosene.
The Minister was speaking after opening the new Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) office in Moneragala yesterday.
“Those who hate this country and who will never allow this country to recover, who do not love the people and want them to die in queues and without medicine, and those who want schools to be closed asked our expatriate workers not to send money to the country. It was the JVP who said this. But the expatriate workers have sent about US$ 12 billion to this country in the last two years,” he said.
The Minister said the SLBFE, the foreign employment agencies and the country’s expatriate workers supported the President’s efforts to recover the country from the economic crisis.
He also said the Government has started a programme to empower 100,000 migrant workers to become entrepreneurs.
The Minister said posters have come up throughout the country saying that good news will be announced shortly and some elements who do not like such good news have started running amok today.
