Three arrested for allegedly threatening Magistrate

The Ragama Police arrested three people, including a couple who allegedly threatened a Magistrate and his family members who had gone to consult a doctor at a private hospital in Ragama on Sunday (21). The Magistrate along with  his wife and children had gone to the hospital along with their security guard. Ragama Police said that when they had come out after seeing the doctor, two women and one person had threatened the family members including the Magistrate. Police also said that one woman had videotaped this entire incident.

A husband-and-wife couple aged 37 and 38 and their female relative residing in Ragama, Batuwatte had been arrested. The female relative is a 34-year-old resident of Dehiwala.

The Police further said that the 34-year-old woman had channeled a doctor at the hospital and the husband and wife had accompanied her. The Magistrate together with his family members had gone to consult the same doctor.

The Police say that the root cause of the problem was the allegation that the Magistrate had met the doctor out of turn. Police said that it had been discovered during the investigation that the woman who channelled the doctor and the married couple had got angry because the Magistrate and his family had allegedly jumped the queue.

The three people who were arrested were produced before the Welisara Magistrate’s Court and remanded.
