Three arrested for assaulting cops in Giribawa

Three people including a soldier who attacked a sub-inspector and a constable on duty at a music show held at Giribawa, Vannikudawewa while returning

to the Police station were arrested by Galgamuwa Police officers along with a hand grenade. This musical show was held on the night of last Friday (14).

Many Police officers have been deployed for its security and most of those officers have returned to the Police Station after the musical show in their own motorcycles.

Police said the three suspects pushed the motorcycle to fall on the ground and the two Police officers fell with the motorcycle.

Police said that when the two officers tried to get up, the three suspects abused the two officers and attacked the officers with a stick. The two Police officers were injured in this attack and were admitted to Giribawa hospital last Saturday (15).

The grenade was found in the possession of the soldier. Galgamuwa Police said he is a resident of Vannikudawewa, Galgamuwa and is in the Sinha Regiment. He is known as Army Ajith by locals.

Police said the other suspects are also residents of Vannikudawewa.The three suspects were to be presented to the Galgamuwa Magistrate’s Court yesterday (20).
