Three Bangladeshis on way to Guatemala on forged visas held at BIA remanded

Three male Bangladesh citizens were arrested on Tuesday (2) night around 10 pm at the Katunayake Airport by the Airport CID unit for allegedly attempting to fly to Guatemala using forged visas.

When contacted by the Daily News, an Airport CID official revealed that the three Bangladesh citizens who have arrived in Sri Lanka on December 20, 2023 have arrived at the Katunayake Airport to fly to Guatemala via Qatar using forged Guatemala visas on their passport issued in Malaysia.

When they were in the process of checking in, the Immigration and Emigration officials based on suspicion over the visas had informed the Katunayake Airport CID officials and they had arrived and investigated the authenticity of the visas and had identified that they were forged ones.

Thereafter, the Airport CID officials arrested the three men and produced them yesterday (3) evening before the Negombo Magistrate Court where they were remanded till January 5.

The three Bangladesh male citizens who were arrested are 41-year-old Alam Mohammad Jahantir, 30-year-old Riswi Hesjar Rahaman and 44-year-old Alam Shaah.

Airport CID is conducting further investigations into the incident in order to take legal action on the three foreigners held in remand custody.
