Three deaths of officers while on election duty
Three persons including a senior election officer and a police officer, who were engaged in election duties, have died on Wednesday night due to health conditions.
The office of the Deputy Inspector General of Elections says that the deceased were three people who were on election duty in Kesbewa, Kobeigane and Kopay areas.
A senior femal election officer who was on duty as the polling station head at the Siri Sadaham Bhikshu Monastery in Kesbewa Police division had passed away on Wednesday night.
This officer is a 48-year-old resident of Payagala, Induruwagoda, working as a programme support officer at the High Court, Colombo.
A police spokesperson stated that she was admitted to Piliyandala District Hospital due to a sudden illness and she had been pronounced dead upon admittance to the hospital.
This emergency situation occurred while the officer was staying at the polling station with two other officers.
The office of the Deputy Inspector General of Elections says that the deceased police officer was working at a polling station in a school in Kurumburai area of Kopay police division and he was 33 years.
Another officer who was attached to a polling station in Kobeigane area has also died due to a sudden illness. It has been confirmed during police investigations that he is 57 years.
The post-mortem examination of all the three deceased are to be done and the police believe that they may have died due to heart problems.
