The Sri Lanka Air Force emphasises that three helicopters are on alert to respond to emergencies arising from adverse weather conditions.
Air Force Media Spokesperson Group Captain Dushan Wijesinghe told the Daily News that rescue teams are prepared to respond immediately upon receiving information about emergencies. These teams will swiftly reach any affected area and the helicopters will be dispatched for rescue operations where necessary, he said. He said helicopters are stationed at the Katunayake, Ratmalana and Hingurakgoda Air Force Bases.
Two Bell 212s and an Mi-17 are ready for any emergency evacuations. He stated that the Air Force is prepared to act upon notifications from the Disaster Management Center.
