Three persons who broke into a house in Daradunuya, Meekandaara, Katuwana on Tuesday evening (21), pretending to be police officers had said that
firearms were hidden in the house and under the pretext of inspecting it, had stolen cash and gold jewellery worth Rs.700,000 and fled the scene.
Police said that a 71 and 70-year-old couple lived in the house where the robbery took place. The police also mentioned that the house of this couple, who are the owners of a 20-acre pepper cultivation land, is also located in the middle of the cultivated land.
According to the place, the children of this couple are married and live separately and this husband and wife live in a house located on the plantation land which is their ancestral home.
The three robbers who came to the house disguised as police officers had looted a lot of gold items including Rs.130,000 from the house. Apart from that, they had also stolen a mobile phone.
The Katuwana Police Crimes Investigation Division is investigating the robbery.
