Three Sri Lankan competitors in action today
They are Niluka Karunaratne in badminton Men’s Singles first round, Tehani Egodawela in shooting Women’s 10m air rifle, and Aniqah Gaffoor in Women’s swimming 100m butterfly event.
Out of all nine Sri Lankans taking part at Tokyo Olympics, Egodawela will be the first to be seen in action on Saturday morning, firing in the Women’s 10m air rifle event qualification round from 8.30 a.m. local time, 5.00 a.m. Sri Lanka time.
There are 56 competitors taking part in the first round with Egodawela to take firing point number seven.
Final round of this event will take place in the afternoon session to determine the first Gold Medal in shooting at the Tokyo Olympics.
Meanwhile, Gaffoor will swim in lane five of heat one of Women’s 100m butterfly qualifying round to be worked off at 7.30 p.m. (4.00 p.m. SL time).
The third Sri Lankan to be seen in action on the same day will be shuttler Niluka Karunaratne in the first round of Men’s Singles.
Playing in his third Olympics, he will meet Tsz-Wei Wang of Chinese Taipei in court three of the Musashino Forest Sport Plaza at 8.00 p.m. (4.30 p.m. SL time). There are over 11,300 athletes from 207 countries who will compete over the next couple of weeks in Tokyo.
