Three Sri Lankan military personnel attend counter-terrorism, hostage rescue course in India

Three Sri Lankan Armed Forces officers are currently participating in a specialised Counter-Terrorism and Hostage Rescue Course in India, which commenced on September 21, 2026, under the framework of the Colombo Security Conclave.

The course is designed to provide officers with exposure to established procedures, operational concepts, and best practices in counter-terrorism and hostage rescue operations. It also serves as a platform for security personnel from Colombo Security Conclave member states to interact, exchange professional experiences and strengthen institutional linkages.

The training forms part of the regional body’s broader efforts to boost capacity building, operational interoperability, and collective security in the Indian Ocean region. Sri Lanka’s participation underscores its ongoing commitment to the conclave’s key objectives, which cover maritime security, counter-terrorism, combating transnational crime, cyber security, critical infrastructure protection and disaster relief.

The Colombo Security Conclave comprises India, Sri Lanka, the Maldives and Mauritius as member states, alongside Bangladesh and Seychelles as observers, working together to address shared security challenges and foster stability across the region. (Newswire)
