Boralasgamuwa Police said that three persons were arrested in connection with the robbery of Rs.15 million worth in gold and cash from the house of a Human Resource Director of the Port Authority in Boralasgamuwa.
The robbers had allegedly entered the house after scaring the house maid at knifepoint.
The robbers had Rs.3.5 million in their possession at the time of their arrest, US$10950, nearly Rs. four million worth of gold ornaments, as well as a live grenade and 24 grams of illegal drugs.
Investigations revealed that the person who had planned the robbery had previously repaired the roof of the director’s house. Police investigations revealed that he had recruited a person involved in various crimes from Ulapane to commit the robbery.
Police said the suspect was arrested with a live grenade in Maharagama after going through CCTV footage and details of the robbery were revealed during questioning.
The Police later arrested the person who planned the robbery from Neelammahara. Later, during the lengthy questioning of the suspect, a person who was hiding another lot of stolen loot was arrested in the Bellantara area.
Police say that the three arrested suspects are involved in various crimes and that cases are pending against them in several courts. The suspects are to be produced before the Nugegoda Magistrate’s Court.
