Three undergrads arrested for obstructing Police duties at ODI match

Three university students were arrested by the Pallekele Police for obstructing the Police duties on Thursday (16), second ODI match between Sri Lanka and Australia in Pallekele.

The three fourth year students of the Faculty of Arts of the Peradeniya University were arrested by the Police for allegedly threatening the Police officers that were on duty at the match and obstructing their duties.

According to Police, the trio had behaved in an unruly manner, verbally abusing Police officers, including a Sub Inspector, who were checking the tickets of spectators at the Pallekele Board of Investment entrance to the stadium.

The four university students arrested on suspicion are residents of Mawathagama, Koslanda, Akuramboda and Kekirawa areas.

The group of students had been intoxicated and they had tried to enter the stadium and when the Police had attempted to prevent them, they had behaved in an unruly manner and started abusing them.

The four students, aged 24-28, are to be produced before the Teldeniya Magistrate’s Court by the Pallekele Police.
