Thurstan, Lumbini declared joint champions

Thurstan College Colombo and Lumbini College Colombo were declared joint champions of the Under 19 Division 1 Tier B Inter Schools Limited Overs Cricket Tournament yesterday. The final match between Thurstan College Colombo and Lumbini College Colombo played at Surrey grounds Maggona, ended without a result.

Thurstan College, Colombo won the toss and elected to field first. Lumbini College scored 178 runs for 9 wickets in 49 overs. Left-handed middle-order batsman Dinitha Prabhanka remained unbeaten with 85 runs off 143 balls, including 5 boundaries.

Contributions from Dumindu Sewmina (26) and Pasindu Mahisha (20) helped build their innings. Dinitha Prabhanka and Dumindu Sewmina shared a 98-run stand for the 7th wicket partnership. Thanuga Palihawadana claimed 3 wickets for 51 runs, while Yovun Silpa and Vishwa Dhananjaya took 2 wickets each.

In response, Thurstan College Colombo scored 48 runs for 2 wickets in 11 overs, with Dinal Induwara scoring an unbeaten 27 runs. The match was abandoned due to bad weather.

Jagath Senarathne, Vice President of Sri Lanka Cricket Association and Principal of P. De S. Kularathna College Ambalangoda, M.S.K. Gunathilake, Principal of Lumbini College Colombo and Y. Nishantha Kumara, Tournament Secretary (U19) of SLSCA, participated in the awards ceremony.
