Ticket zone invasion leads to clash at Hariharan’s Jaffna show

At least three people were injured and hospitalized and six others were arrested following crowd unrest at the concert conducted by popular Indian singer Hariharan and several South Indian artistes at the Muttraveli Stadium in Jaffna on Friday night.

the Jaffna Police on charges of damaging property and unruly behaviour. Reportedly, a clash erupted after some spectators from the free ticket zone started invading the paid ticket zones.

The organizers of the event had demarcated an area extending 100 metres from the stage as a paid ticket zone and the rest of the ground was free for the spectators. A large number who came to see the concert tried to enter the paid ticket area despite Police protection. As a result of the unrest, the event was suspended for one hour and Police brought the situation under control with much effort. The concert resumed after one hour and progressed for a few hours more without any untoward incident.
