Tilvin Silva in India under BJP’s ‘KNOW BJP’ programme

A five-member Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) delegation led by General Secretary Tilvin Silva has begun a visit to India, holding discussions with figures from India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in New Delhi.

The delegation is visiting India under the BJP’s “KNOW BJP” programme at the invitation of the party’s Foreign Affairs Department. Indian and Sri Lankan reports said the visit is aimed at strengthening political engagement and exchanging organisational experiences between the two parties.

BJP politician Vanathi Srinivasan said she held discussions with Silva and his delegation in Delhi on September 27, together with BJP Foreign Affairs Department in-charge Vijay Chauthaiwale.

According to Srinivasan, the discussions covered issues concerning Indian fishermen, refugee resettlement and cooperation between Sri Lanka and India.

The delegation was earlier received in New Delhi by BJP representatives ahead of its official engagements.

The JVP delegation also includes Central Committee member Chandrika Adhikari, MP Aboobucker Athambawa, District Committee member Kabilan Sundaramoorthy and International Department member Kalpana Madhubhashini.

During the visit, the delegation is also scheduled to hold discussions with Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, BJP National President Nitin Nabin and other senior political figures.

The visit is scheduled to continue until October 1. (Newswire)
