TNA holds meeting on HR, Constitutional Reforms

A meeting was held on Sunday between some senior leaders of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) to discuss once again the proposals to be submitted to the UN Human Rights Commission and matters that had been submitted based on the request of the President, to be considered when preparing a new Constitution.

Members of the TNA said that during this meeting which was held using video technology, a lengthy discussion was held on proposals that had been submitted for consideration when a new Constitution is being drafted.

The progress regarding the exchange of letters between the committee to draft a new Constitution and TNA leader R. Sampanthan had also been a subject to discussion.

The views exchanged between TNA Parliamentarian Sumanthiran and Foreign Minister G.L. Peiris had also been discussed and these had included a series of proposals which had to be followed when solving problems of the Tamil people and when preparing a constitution on behalf of the Tamil people.

A number of matters regarding the activities of regional TNA politicians and their anti-disciplinary actions had been highlighted during this discussion. The TNA had arrived at a decision to hold discussions with the relevant groups and that the situation should be resolved immediately.

During the discussion regarding the proposals that should be submitted to the UN Human Rights Commission, matters that had not been fulfilled from among proposals presented previously were also subject to dialogue and a decision had been made to hold a meeting of the Central Committee of the TNA prior to the sessions of the Human Rights Commission to be held in September.
