Palenwattha West and Mahayayawattha Community Halls in Kesbewa electorate were renovated and vested in the public with the decentralised funds allocated to Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena on July 28, 2024.

The Prime Minister commenting at the event, said:

“Government departments alone cannot do everything. Some work should be done with the participation of public and government officials. Such community activities in every village in Sri Lanka can be transformed into the happiness of the people and the development of their lives.

We need such brotherhood to move our country forward. If there is that brotherhood from the village level up, it will be a great strength for the country. Human power can cause great revolutions. Work together for the development of the country.

In the past years, farmers managed to create a surplus in the agricultural sector in some districts of our country. It enabled us to overcome many difficult challenges that we had to face.

We are a country with ample water. Every government has taken measures to protect that water and increase the production of electricity. How many problems were raised when Uma Oya was started? Protest campaigns were launched. Pickets were launched.

In the midst of severe challenges, President Ranil Wickremesinghe made a request to that country to finish the Uma Oya project, and we will supply tea for that.

Finally, there was no uncertainty as mentioned by the protest movements. Thousands of acres are being harvested anew today. The electric power of 120 megawatt was added to the National grid.

Rural Development Societies are very active institutions in the process of assigning development work to the village. Since the time of the State Council, the governments worked with trust in the rural development societies. By doing so, human virtues are preserved and an additional power of fraternity is created in the human society.

In the past, the countries of the world stopped negotiating with us. We had to form a new government. Today, it has become a country that can negotiate with the world again. The agreement to provide loans and aid again that were suspended by Japan was signed last week. Accordingly, it will be possible to start the suspended work in the future.”

Ven. Palenwatthe Sobitha Thera, M.A., Viharadhikari of Palenwattha Sathbudu Temple, and Members of Parliament Gamini Lokuge and Yadamini Gunawardena participated in this event.
