Treasury will provide all funds required for Prez Poll – Ranjith
Finance State Minister Dr. Ranjith Siyambalapitiya stated the Election Commission has sent a preliminary estimate of nearly eight billion rupees to the Treasury for the conduct of the Presidential Election and added if the expenditure for the election increases beyond the allotted funds, the Treasury is ready to provide the additional funds needed.
The Minister also said that the Treasury is ready to provide money for the election as requested by the Election Commission.
The minister mentioned that 10 billion rupees was allocated for election activities in the last budget, and the economy has been well coordinated to release the money in such a way for the election that there will no conflict between the cash flows.
“Accordingly, the Election Commission has sent an estimate of nearly eight billion rupees to the Treasury and the Treasury is ready to release the money for any urgent need such as printing, security, fuel, ballot box preparation etc”.
The minister further stated that if the number of candidates running for the presidential election increases and the estimated cost increases, there will be no problem as there is currently money for miscellaneous activities.
