The International Cricket Council (ICC) has fined Sri Lanka and Pakistan for maintaining slow over-rates during the opening match of the ODI Tri-Series in Rawalpindi on October 18.

Sri Lanka were fined 5% of their match fees, while Pakistan received a 10% fine.

According to the ICC, Sri Lanka were ruled to be one over short of the required target, while Pakistan were found to be two overs short after time allowances were taken into consideration.

Under the ICC Code of Conduct, players are fined 5% of their match fees for every over their team fails to bowl within the allotted time.

Jeff Crowe of the ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees imposed the sanctions.

Pakistan captain Shaheen Shah Afridi and Sri Lanka captain Kusal Mendis pleaded guilty and accepted the penalties, avoiding the need for formal hearings.

The charges were levelled by on-field umpires Asif Yaqoob and Wayne Knights, third umpire Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid and fourth umpire Faisal Afridi. (Newswire)
