Trinity athletic champions of Central Province

The four day Central Province Schools Boys and Girls Athletics championship 2023 was grand show in this meet good number of athletes were seen in action in four age group under 14, 16, 18 and 20. The participants were from Kandy, Nuwara Eliya,and Matale Districts. The Trinity College Athletics team led by Umar Manzil became the overall champions.

The meet was held at the Bogambara Stadium. The meet featured schools;from all across the Central Province representing Zones. It is said that the athletes who were placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd in this meet,will participate in the National Competition. In the overall zonal points tally, the Kandy Educational Zone won first place, while the Wattegama and Hatton Educational Zones were placed second and third respectively.

It is noteworthy that the Trinity Athletes who achieved this feat 18 years ago won in the year 2022 and continued this year too. It is no easy task to win the Provincial Meet, as there is competition from the other schools that take part. Walala A Ratnayake Central College was in the limelight for years, and Trinity College stole back the spotlight. Trinity College in the boys event were overall relay champions, in the under 14, and in the under 16 were group runners-up, in the under 18 group champions, under 20 runners-up ended up as the Overall provincial champions.In the Girls event overall relay title was won by WalalaA. Ratnayake Central College So, in the overall zonal points tally, the Kandy Educational Zone with 989 points won first place, while the Wattegama and Hatton Educational Zones were placed second and third respectively.

Walala A. Ratnayake Central College clinched the girls’ championship for the 31st successive yeay and stamped their unblemished authority in the school arena. The Walala lasses won the overall relay title too. K.L.A. Akalanka of Hatton/Ambagamuwa Central College was awarded the best male athlete title for his prowess in 400 m hurdles. Tharushi Karunaratne of Walala A. Ratnayake Central College – who holds a top spot in the ranking was crowned the best female athlete of the tourney.

Trinity under – 20 Group champions

Trinity College coached by Sanoj Srinath emerged as champions in the Sri Lanka School Division II under 20 Group soccer championship which was worked off in Kandy at Pallekelle, In the match number one Trinity beat St. Anthony’s College by 7 goals to nil the goals were netted by Vidumeth Dhamage, Akshee Mahadivuluwewa two goals each and one each by Vevash Muraleedran, Shaan Althaf, Uvan Vithanage, In the second game beat St. Sylvester’s College by 2 goals to nil , the goal scorers Dev Karavita and Stephen.

In the third game got a walk over from Wariyapola SriSumangala College, and in the fourth game beat Dharmaraja College by 3 goals to1, scorers were Yevan Hulangauwa, Dinusha Peries, Viduneth Dharmage. The matches were refereed by Chamalka Ridma, Dhanushka Kumaral and P.C. Wijeratne.

The table Trinity College played 4 and won all, St. Sylvester’s College in 4 games won 3;Dharmaraja College in 4 games won 2, St. Anthony’s College in 4 games won 1.Wariyapola Sri Sumanagala College played only 2 games and lost.
