Trinity perform well at Div. I under-19 limited overs tourney
A big hand should go to Naveen Ekanayake who is one of the finest cricket coaches to have made a mark in school cricket this last season and also this time over here in Kandy.
He is also known for his excellent man-management skills which were evident as the head coach. He took Trinity Collage cricket to dizzy heights in his coaching career. Naveen also came up with some impactful performances during his career in cricket.
He played in the U13, U15, U17, and U19 teams for Trinity College and was considered as the best fielder in each age group. He took the second place in the Sunday Observer Schoolboy Cricketer Awards in 2014.
He was a good wicket-keeper and a knowledgeable right hand batsman. After his school career, he continued his cricket and played for CCC and Kandy C.C. At a young age he started his coaching journey with Sanath Jayasuriya Cricket Foundation, Colombo.
After acquiring coaching skills he joined his old school Trinity College, and started as the 2nd XI coach. Under his coaching the school’s U-17 team became division 1 joint champions in 2022, the U-19 team became division One champions in the limited over’s tier A in 2023.
They also became the U-19 division one joint champions in the two day tournament 2022/23. And in the last big match they won on 1st innings and regained the trophy after five long years.
This season Trinity College for limited over’s event has got a lot of super players in the side. They are all out to come with a good performance, and are sure to be on top.
However, for the sake of the sport, entire cricket lovers of present and old boys of Trinity College must be happy with the good effort of the team. It should be said that Trinity College is one of the oldest cricket playing schools in the country.
They have a superb indoor net, bowling machine, and an international stadium. Thanks to the principal Rev. Fr.Araliya Jayasundara gives a big hand with best of support.
Then the MIC Brian Senaratne. A big hand should go to head coach, who is a former Trinity cricketer Naveen Ekanayake, Assistant Coaches Lakshitha Alahakoon and Dinusha Jayashantha all three are outstanding coaches.
This time two of talented cricketers are in the limited overs tournament, who are Lion winners in the last season Manula Kularatne and Dinusha Peiris are the captain and vice captain.
Some of the senior players under these two in the side are Dinuka Tennakoon, Tharana Wimaladharma both are also Lion winners, and the other two are Janith Warnakula and Supun Waduge both are coloursmen and the rest of the players who have done well are Manual Kularatne, Vathiula Udara, Lakvin Abeyasinghe, Kavindy Kaushalaya.
This season’s for the present tournament the squad is made out of cricketers like Manula Kularathne (captain), Dinusha Pieris (vice captain), Dinuka Thennakoon, Supun Waduge, Tharana Wimaladharma, Janith Warnakula, Jayavi Liyanagama, Lakvin Abeysinghe, Wathila Udara, Malith Rathnayake, Dimantha Mahavithana, Kavindu Jayarathne, Viduka Dammage, Ometh Bandara and Kaveen Gamage.
