Trinity win Cup title over Kingswood

The Kandy’s school first rugby Sevens tournament of the year was held yesterday at the Trinity College grounds at Pallekelle. Eight top rugger playing schools took part in this 2021 Central Province schools Sevens Rugby Tournament organized by the schools rugby controlling body and the match officials, the referees and assistant referees. This should be said tens of thousands were interested in the games but the tournament was hosted behind closed doors. The Cup went to Trinity College, Plate was taken by Dharmaraja College, Bowl went to Vidyartha College, and the Shield to Sri Rahula College.
After all of the waiting for schools rugby to resume in Kandy, the tournament offered some good games and quality rugby with Trinity College led by defeating Kingswood College 33-07 in the Cup final to take the trophy title after winning a stunning final. Trinity College side was the outstanding outfit and were unbeaten and in the final gave a superb display of rugby.
Dharmaraja College recorded a 26-14 victory over Wariyapola Sri Sumangala College in the Plate final. In this game Dharmaraja College showed great composure and Wariyapola Sri Sumangala College side were impressive with ball in hand, but failed to pull the game. Vidyartha College side captured the Bowl title by beating St. Anthony’s College with a 19-12 victory. Sri Rahula College produced a superb display of rugby to beat St. Sylvester’s College 26-05 in the Shield final.
In the pool games it was good rugby and also schools won or lost produced good quality rugby and the team who did well were in the Cup, Plate, Bowl and Shield final.
In the pool games, in the first outing Trinity College beat Sri Rahula College 50-00 and the rest of Dharmaraja College beat St. Anthony’s College 21-17, Kingswood College beat St. Sylvester’s College 26-14, Wariyapola Sri Sumangala College beat Vidyartha College 24-19, Trinity College beat Dharmaraja College 32-19, St. Anthony’s College beat Sri Rahula College 26-14, Kingswood College beat Wariyapola Sri Suamangala College 41-00 , Vidyartha College beat St. Sylvester’s College 29-07, Trinity College beat St. Anthony’s College 47-00, Dharmaraja College beat Sri Rahula College 29-10, Kingswood College beat Vidyartha College 38-10, Wariyapola Sri Sumangala College beat St Sylvester’s College 34-05.
