Trishaw driver killed while waiting for someone
Investigations have revealed that a person who was shot dead yesterday (28) afternoon in a three-wheeler near Vivekananda Viharaya, Kiththampahuwa in Wellampitiya had been called to the place by someone. The victim was identified as Mohammad Sajjan (47). According to his National Identity Card, the murdered person is a resident of Madampitiya Road, Colombo 15.
SSP Lalith Abeysekara, Director of Western Province South District Crime Division said that the investigation revealed that the person now resides in Enderamulle.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that this person is a trishaw driver at Second Cross Street in Pettah, Colombo, and apart from that, he was also involved in a sewing business.
The Wellampitiya Police said that the investigation so far has not revealed any information that this person is involved in crime. The reason for him to come to Wellampitiya was not revealed until yesterday evening.
The Police said that the three-wheeler was stopped in front of the Vivekananda temple and the driver was making a phone call. In the meantime, two people who came there on a motorcycle, the pillion rider got off the motorcycle and came close to this person and shot him in the head four or five shots with a revolver.
The Police said that the man died on the spot. It is said that he resided in Kimbulaela, Colombo 15. Investigations have revealed that he stayed near the temple for about 10 minutes while making the phone call. The Police suspect that a person brought him to the place and kept him there by making phone calls until the gunman arrived.
The Wellampitiya Police and the Western Province South Crime Division are conducting the investigations under the leadership of Chief Inspector Indika Nilantha, OIC of the Wellampitiya Police.
